When you add a pet we store the details you type in: your pet's name, species, breed, country, optional birthday, optional description, optional personality answers and the photo you upload.

We also store your email address, which is used to confirm your pet and to sign you in later. We never ask for a password.

Your pet's page, number, photo and club memberships are public by design — that is the whole point of the project. Your email address is never shown publicly.

To give your pet a permanent pet number and a public page.

To send you the confirmation email, sign-in links and codes you ask for.

To count pets towards one million and to show club member numbers.

We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask us to.

If you tick "Keep me in the PET1M loop" we'll email you PET1M news, milestones, competitions, pet stories and occasional offers. It is completely optional, it is never ticked for you, and we keep a record of when and where you chose it. You can change your mind at any time in My Pets, or by emailing hello@pet1m.com.

Pet details and photos are stored in our own database, hosted by our infrastructure providers on our behalf. Emails are delivered through our email provider. Some of these providers operate outside the UK and EU under standard contractual protections.

Photos are re-saved on our servers before storage, which strips camera and location data. The original file you uploaded is not kept.

We keep your pet's entry for as long as you want it listed. A pet you delete goes immediately. An unfinished pet that is never confirmed is discarded after 24 hours. Photos held for review and reports are kept while a decision is made and for up to 12 months afterwards, so we can handle repeat problems.

Each photo is checked automatically before it goes live, to keep the wall to real pets and nothing distressing. The check is done by an AI image service acting on our instructions; it doesn't use your photo to train anything.

If the check flags something, or can't complete, the photo waits privately for a person to look at it, and never appears publicly in the meantime. A decision is always made by a human, never automatically, and we email you the outcome.

You can edit your pet's description and personality answers at any time from My Pets.

You can delete a pet from My Pets, which removes its page, photo and share card immediately.

You can ask for a copy of everything we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account, every pet on it and your email address. Email hello@pet1m.com and we'll do it, normally within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information you can complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

PET 1M is meant for adults adding their own pets. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to add your pet for you.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on this page.
